Recovering Xavier in a Major Burn Unit (1994)

Slideshow

A traffic accident left photographer Xavier Pérez with severe burns and only one arm.  I photographed him in the Major Burns Unit of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, where he left a great mark as the most spirited patient they had met in years.

Dr. Solano performed several skin tissue transplant operations (in some images Xavier appears with a sort of hump on his back, which allowed doctors to have a greater extension of skin), and applied pressotherapy techniques with compressive masks for acute and post-autografting treatment. As Xavier evolved, he recovered his profession, taking advantage of the fact that cameras were already autofocus, and studied multimedia, programming and cinema. He is now one of the most renowned audiovisual producers, also specialized in digital color grading and film distribution from his studio fromzero.
