Broken Lives in a Psychiatric Institute (1980-1984))

Slideshow

The so-called Mental Institution, located near the Paseo Valldaura in Barcelona, was nothing more than a madhouse, now demolished.

When I finally got permission to enter it with my camera, I was expecting to find well cared for patients suffering mental alterations. Nothing could have been farther from the truth.

What I found amongst the crumbling walls were human being abandoned to their fate. Take a look at this video by JM Comelles that explain the story of this institution attaching some of my photographs.

Also, I have posted another one in my channel of YouTube, explaining (in Spanish) how the pictures were taken.

Some of these images appears in the first chapter of my book CurArte and in the year 2022 the publishing house Janus, published a small book entitled "INSTITUTO MENTAL 1980" inside the collection OJOS DE BUEY (an archive of Spanish documentary photography).
