BanyoleSpeculum (2019)

Slideshow

Lake Banyoles has been for me an unending learning experience about light. Perhaps the place I like most in the world. Located in the Pla de l’Estany zone, is a pond fed by groundwater from the High Garrotxa region, northwest from this point.

It is the second-largest lake in Spain. It covers 107 ha and is 46.4 m deep. For birds, the lake offers both shelters from the winter and a nesting place in the summer. Many birds also use the lake as a resting place in their migration. Frequently seen birds are the moorhen, the coot, the mallard, the little bittern, the kingfisher, the reed warbler, the nightingale, the stork, the cormorant and the water rail among many others.

Declared picturesque landscape in 1951 it is an exceptionally beautiful place to walk around, have a boat journey and enjoy the fishermen's houses from the nineteenth century or simply to take some pictures on its banks.

As well as the beauty of the countryside, it has great ecological interest as many protected species meet there. Sports fishing, canoeing and triathlon take place at Banyoles Lake which was an Olympic site during the Barcelona Games in 1992, in a quite magnificent setting.

I love sharing this little paradise through the language of photography. It is a personal essay on landscape variability.

In this video with music by Paco Viciana you can watch more pictures. Also, I recommend you this other one, three minutes long.
